The Concierges' Gazette

Going out in October

Derain, Balthus, Giacometti. An artistic friendship: this is the previously unseen exhibition presented by the Musée d’Art moderne until October 29th. It explores the relationship between these 3 major artists of the 20th century by showing more than 350 pieces coming from the leading private and institutional collections around the world.

The Jacquemart André museum presents The Hansen’s Secret Garden, the Ordrupgaard collection. An exceptional collection (unique in Europe) and some relatively unknown-in-France treasures, from Corot, Manet, Cézanne, Pissaro, Sisley, Monet, but also Renoir or Morisot. Until January 22nd.

To celebrate the centenary of his birth, the Grand Palais highlights Irving Penn. One of the greatest photographers of the 20th century, famous for his portraits of celebrities like Pablo Picasso, Yves Saint Laurent, Audrey Hepburn or Alfred Hitchcock. Until January 29th.

The Opéra Bastille presents Don Carlos, composed by Verdi in the “Grand Opéra” French style. A drama of jealousy, a passionate tragedy, a betrayal… Don Carlos is all at the same time. But by confronting Carlos’ idealistic aspirations and the authoritarianism of the king, it can also be seen as a political work (even if the plot is a fiction). From October 10th.

A young and trendy atmosphere expects you at Les Grands Verres in the Palais de Tokyo. The American Chef Preston Miller proposes Mussels vadouvan, celery; heirloom tomatoes and melons, tahini sauce, garlic candy, dill oil; a milk-braised shoulder of Berkshire pork with smoked eggplant, new potatoes; and for dessert a chocolate and sumac cake with rose meringue. Count 50 to 60 Euro. Open daily from noon to 11pm (2am at the bar). Sunday brunch from 11am to 4pm. 13 avenue du Président Wilson, 16th.

A menu supervised by Alain Ducasse, a high-quality service managed by Werner Kuchler (a reference in Paris)… The Relais Plaza is a Parisian institution worth a visit! King crab, green mango remoulade, avocado, yuzu jelly; shin bone of lamb, eggplant in a Sicilian style; 100% vanilla for dessert… Count 70 to 150 Euro. Jazz concerts every last Wednesday of the month, with Werner and his musicians. Open daily. 21 avenue Montaigne, 8th.
